The more corrupt the state, the more numerous the laws.

I didn't have to wear a jacket today! I wore a sweatshirt to class and it was comfortable, not even chilly. So happy!

I'm running out of good books to procrastinate with. I like mysteries and sci-fi. None of my favorite authors have anything new out for months. It's way too scary to just walk in to Barnes & Noble and pick randomly. Any suggestions?

Hostage: A person held as a pledge that certain conditions will be fulfilled, failing which his life or well-being will be forfeited.
Detain: To keep from leaving, to keep in custody.
(according to Websters)

I'm rather put off by deliberately inflammatory language. They weren't hostages the second day, they aren't hostages yet. If China expressly states that they won't be freed until we apologise then they'll be hostages. News reports like the word hostage because it's instant drama. Stupid senators like it because it helps demonize the other side. And the masses fall for it because that's what everyone's saying. Subtle stupid manipulation of public sentiment.

Wow. I cannot believe that the government is actually referring to itself as Robin Hood. They are honestly telling people that their job is to "steal from the rich and give to the poor." I can't believe anyone would be so blatant. Yeah Robin Hood is a romantic figure. A Hero even. But the notion "from each according to his ability, to each according to his need," is called socialism. It's been tried several places and given up as a bad idea. Not to mention the fact that this is a capitalistic socity and we've been denouncing Marxism since forever. I'm still blown away by the fact that the government telling some people that other people are more deserving of their money and so they're going to take it away. And no one is howling about it.
