The more corrupt the state, the more numerous the laws.

So our kitty Chrissy is at the vet again. They still can't figure out what's wrong with her. She's still puking and she's lost a lot of weight. In October she weighed 11 pounds and now she's down to 8. That's like a human loosing 50 pounds in a couple of months. The vet says they're going to give her IV fluids and if they can't get her to eat they'll have to tube feed her. Everybody cross your fingers for her.

Yesterday morning I was listening to one of the radio morning shows and they were talking about Andrea Yates (the woman who drowned her 5 kids.) Her husband was on 60 Minutes on Sunday. (The prosecutor was too in apparent defiance of a gag order imposed by the judge on everyone involved, including the husband. This case is going to get really ugly.) The husband blames "the medical community" for failing them. It wasn't Andrea who drowned the kids. It was the psychiatrist who let them down. This despite the fact that they were told after the 4th kid that if she had another baby her psychotic depression would return. Let me clarify the definition of psychotic here, psychotic in basic terms denotes a break with reality. Psychotic depression includes delusions or hallucinations and a lack of awareness that they are not real. This woman had had these symptoms previously and so her decision-making ability is up for debate. Her husband however was aware of this and of the fact that another pregnancy would likely trigger these symptoms. Knowing this they chose to have another baby and then he left her in a clearly depressed state home alone with the kids. But it was the medical community that failed them.

Oh yeah and Ebola is loose again in Gabon.

What a cheery world we live in.

It's good to care about such things but it's oh so tiring.

So according to Newsweek and the FBI these sweeps and detentions for muslim men who've violated immigration law have already prevented at least one terrorist attack. Damn you John Ashcroft!
