The more corrupt the state, the more numerous the laws.

Saudi religious police beat girls attempting to flee a burning building because they aren't wearing a burqa and then tell firefighters that it's a sin to approach them because they aren't covered. This is a religion of peace? These are our greatest allies in the middle east? Those religious police are the official enforcers of religious law in Saudi Arabia. There is no division between secular and religious law, they act with the blessing of the government. How sick can a society be before it self-destructs?

Yeeesh. Dracula is on TV right now. The version with Winona Rider as Mina. WORST MOVIE EVER. Absolutely incoherent with random gothic touches. Like how the old gypsy woman has to give Keanu a rosary and warn him of unspecified danger before he reaches the castle. Like Dracula's 500 year old transylvanian castle with unnecessary rusting industrial iron components on the interior. Also the constant dripping water in spite of the fact that the castle is on a cliff and it's not raining. The strange pleather-looking armor that the original Count Dracul wears. Dracula's 'do is supposed to look archaic but just looks like a big ass sitting on his head. Dracula makes a big point of saying he doesn't drink ...wine. The 10 foot train on his dark red robe. etc. etc. etc. It's one of the most overdone stories anyway but this movie probably made a decent version impossible for at least the next decade. I hated hated hated this movie.
