Poor vegetarians. Not a good week. Now it turns out that plants scream when cut. At least according to the folks at the University of Bonn who claim to have recorded the sounds plants make when in distress.

Wow. There's actually an online petition to get Peter Jackson and New Line Cinema to rename the next Lord of the Rings Movie because:
"Peter Jackson has decided to tastelessly name the sequel "The Two Towers". The title is clearly meant to refer to the attacks on the World Trade Center. In this post-September 11 world, it is unforgiveable that this should be allowed to happen. The idea is both offensive and morally repugnant. Hopefully, when Peter Jackson and, more importantly, New Line Cinema see the number of signatures on this petition, the title will be changed to something a little more sensitive. "
Petition Online has posted a disclaimer noting that the book was written 47 years ago.
I hope whoever started this was some socially maladjusted high school geek looking to get people riled up. I hope so because I don't want to believe that anyone could be so stupid.

Lileks loved spider man. I mean he loved it.
I got stuck watching it with someone who fixated on the goofiness of the Green Goblin's mask so much that it ruined the whole movie for him. It's good to know that the rest of the world liked it as much as I did.
