The more corrupt the state, the more numerous the laws.

Something I forgot to blog about on tuesday:
I went to go pick my grandpa up at the airport. The other in-town relations cannot be trusted to remember not to leave grandpa waiting at gate F13 all day. Anyway... The National inSecurity folks have decreed that to get to the gate you must have a ticket. (Don't think to hard about that one.) But of course exceptions are made for people who simply must meet someone at the gate. So I go up to the ticket counter and ask for a gate pass. I explain that I'm meeting my grandfather coming in on flight XXX. She asks for my ID. Then she fills out a form which is a piece of paper, cut in half crookedly and photocopied to illegibility. On which she writes, in felt-tipped marker, my name and my reason for needing to get past security. I go to the checkpoint. They look at the paper and wave me through. I wasn't even asked for my ID. I could have taken my little piece of paper outside and given it to Ima Bomber and they wouldn't have caught on. New security. Looks better but it's just the same as before with more hassle.

It's starting to affect us.
The FBI issued warnings about terrorists bombing apartment buildings. A huge explosion just wiped out an apartment in
California. Normally I would assume that it was gas related and not give it another thought. Now the first thing that springs to mind is that it might be a bomb. Really, bombing apartment buildings would be a very effective way to sow terror. No one pays much attention to their neighbors, certainly no one would think much of people hauling in huge crates. You could manage an enormous amount of explosives and you could set them so you wouldn't even have to detonate yourself with it. In a big building at say 9 pm you could take out several hundred people. Imagine the panic if that started happening. How many people live in apartment buildings? How many recent muslim imigrants live in apartment buildings? How would they be treated?
