Well this is cause for concern, especially in light of the longest undefended border in the world. Kinda puts that canadian travel advisory for the US in a different light doesn't it?

Finally. Better late than never to regain some of your credibility.

Oh I hope not. More for their sake than ours. Explain this logic to me:
-The big bad US supports the evil jews in their effforts to crush palestinians under their nazi-like jackboots.
-The US is the single greatest military power in the world.
-If the US abandoned Israel, they'd be screwed.
-Islamic terrorists killed 3000 of our people a little over a year ago in an act that outraged the country like nothing since Pearl Harbor.
-Shortly thereafter we saw palestinains on the news dancing in the streets with glee. (and the cameramen who filmed it were then threatened with death by Arafat's people)
-Then palestinian terrorists started shooting up playgrounds, bombing buses and universities, and shooting babies in their cribs.

This has not endeared them to us. But they have to be fatally stupid to think that bringing that kind of shit here will achieve their political ends.

Lileks flays Mondale better than I could.
On a related note... I heard both Penny and Moore on MPR this morning. I do believe I'll vote for them. Sensible people, whod'a thunk it?

For just the barest second I thought that this was unspeakably cruel. The I remembered who these guys are and what they did. Pity's gone. Let's see how this works for them. The Russians have alwasy been a bit closer to the 'Put his head on a spike over the main gate' brand of deterence.

"One of the requirements of a healthy party is that it renews itself. You can't keep running Walter Mondale for everything."
-Walter Mondale, declining to run for the United States Senate seat from Minnesota (1989)
(Slightly unfair in this case but revealing nonetheless.)
I listened to him on MPR today. He's not just a fool but a great fool. I don't yet have any personal distaste for him (unlike Coleman,) but I'd never vote for him.

Paul Wellstone responds to the memorial service.

I think she's onto something here. I think the people who loved Wellstone for what he was -a liberal progressive democrat senator- saw nothing wrong with using the memorial to try to fill that gap. I think a larger majority of people who loved him (even the many who disagreed with him) loved (or at least respected) who he was -A nice guy. A real Person. Someone who sincerely wanted to help people. It wasn't about him.- I think those people were horrified to see his casket used as a stump because they know that the gap can't be filled.

Sigh. Perhaps there was actually offensive behavior involved as part of this incident, but the story makes it sound like the entire incident is about blackface. They weren't dressed up as klansmen for pity sake. I assume, absent any contradictory details, that it was simply a costume and not (racially) malicious.

Flee flee from the ivory tower, the inmates are running the place now.
