"So. Our ancestors clawed their way out of the caves, fought behemoths with their bare hands; survived earthquakes, floods, volcanic eruptions, meteor showers and plagues, all so their descendents could sit on the road and wail."

More
Lileks humor.
While it's good to be prepared for the worst, I'm fascinated by the quantity of nightmare scenarios the media present. Any day I expect to see these headlines:

"GIANT SAND WORMS: ARE THEY A THREAT TO OUR TROOPS? Scientists say such worms, while fictional, could swallow tanks, troops

IRAQ'S SECRET WEAPON: A GIGANTIC ORBITING NUCLEAR FUSION DEVICE -- Experts say the heat produced by this object, dubbed "The Sun," could complicate daytime operations by revealing American troop formations. U.S. forces hope to employ a countermeasure the Marines call "the night," but experts note that it takes up to 12 hours to be effective."

I'm not saying that this will be easy or merry. But they train for these conditions, because it's possible that wars will have to be fought sometime other than May.

Den Beste's theory is gaining adherents.
William Safire details yet more illegal business connections between Iraq and the nations opposing war.
"This detail about the France-China-Syria-Iraq propellant collaboration makes for dull reading, but reveals some of the motivation behind the campaign of those nations to suppress the truth. The truth, however, will out."

Politically driven
assholes. Again, the difference between "partial birth abortion" and the other late-term abortion technique is that partial birth abortion leaves the body of the fetus intact but collapses the skull by sucking the brain out. The other option dismembers the body and pulls it out a piece at a time. That technique is not up for being banned. The two combined total less than a thousand procedures a year. There are only a few dozen clinics in the entire country that perform either procedure.
