So. As Dan pointed out, The Law went into effect yesterday, causing hundreds of DFL heads to simultaneously implode. All this has made my very own personal life just a tad stressful and chaotic. I'm using my dayplanner more now than I did in college. Non-stop frustration.

I'm ready to declare jihad on Qwest yet again. I set up a seperate phone line and explicitly asked if it would feed into my main voicemail box. I was assured that it would. Silly me I neglected to check. Of course now that I have a few hundred business cards in circulation it's been brought to my attention that the voicemail box does not work. It won't be fixed for 5 days. [string of profanity]

I also ventured down to the BCA today to get my instructor credentials validated. It's not required (yet) but I thought I'd be nice and reassure the sheriffs that I am in fact not a slavering blood-crazed yahoo. Of course despite the fact that I got the info and the form from the BCA website, no one has bothered to inform the BCA that they will be doing any of this. I actually had to argue with the lady that yes they did take these forms and I got them from their own website. [exasperated sigh]

Meanwhile my day job is putting up prohibition signs (rightly so.) It's one of the few places where carrying would be extremely stupid. However, the simple one line signs that they printed do not meet the requirements of the law. I had to go hunt down the actual text for them. (No, I wasn't the one who raised the issue.)
"...prominently posted a conspicuous sign at every entrance to the establishment containing the following language: "(INDICATE IDENTITY OF OPERATOR) BANS GUNS IN THESE PREMISES."; and
(ii) the requester or its agent personally informs the person of the posted request and demands compliance.

(2) "Prominently" means readily visible and within four feet laterally of the entrance with the bottom of the sign at a height of four to six feet above the floor.
(3) "Conspicuous" means lettering in black arial typeface at least 1-1/2 inches in height against a bright contrasting background that is at least 187 square inches in area."
It's that and that has everyone in such a tizzy. The story goes (and I'm inclined to believe it considering how rushed this was,) that that and was a clerical error and shoud have been an or. The DFL is blocking a correction because they "want as bad a law as possible on the books" to piss people off in an attempt to get the law overturned. Imagine how much money all these businesses will have to spend on this foolishness. [disgusted laughter] Sometimes you gotta laugh or you'll go nuts.
